With the second round of draft picks drawing to a close, it was four-time champion Big Dave who topped the charts heading into the New Year with two wins and a draw over the Christmas period.
Romelu Lukaku’s late winner for Everton against Southampton in Week 21 was enough to secure all three points for Dave and remain two points clear of Stuart who failed to capitalise on a rare Spurs clean sheet.
Taff continued his incredible turnaround in fortunes over Christmas and was quick to put a 6-4 defeat behind him in Week 18 with three straight wins to maintain his challenge in fourth, while six wins from the last nine have seen Paul catapult into third – largely down to the awesome partnership forming between Luis Suarez and Alvaro Negredo who have scored 18 goals between them in that period. Paul, looking for his first Kestrel title, is just four points off the lead going into 2014.
At the bottom, an aggrieved defending champion Cobman is still fuming at not being able to play the ineligible David Silva in Week 18 which would have turned one point into all three and will be quick to point out such travesties when he fails to win the title by two points come May. Especially as that may be the only goal Silva scores for the rest of the season!
Steve’s slump continues with just one win in his last seven, while rare goals from Papiss Cisse, Samuel Eto’o and Nicolas Anelka could bring some festive cheer to Matt’s middle-of-the-table team heading into the New Year.
E-Chief is just thankful he’s got a better goal difference than Cobman!
