A rare Javier Hernandez goal earned Steve a vital 1-0 victory in Week 37 to give the three-time Kestrel champion a crucial lead at the top of the table with just five games remaining.
The ‘Little Pea’ struck for only the sixth time this season – and second in as many games – to lift Steve two points clear of Matt in second place and give Steve his 12th win in the last 15.
In what could turn out to be a pivotal week in outcome of this year’s championship, Steve was the only winner in the Top 4 with Matt, Taff and P-Chief all on the wrong end of one goal deficits.
Stu, a leader for so long in this season’s campaign, suffered a fifth straight defeat to all-but-end his title ambitions, while Dave picked up just his second win in 14 to move up to fifth – but, like Stu, remains 10 points off the lead.
At the bottom, defending champion Cobman and last year’s runner-up E-Chief continued their recent runs of what has been too-little-too-late form as the battle for the wooden spoon could yet bring in more contenders!
