Steve defied the pre-season Honest Hallos predictions to claim his fourth Kestrel title on goal difference from Daryl after the closest title race in years finished with more final day drama.
Needing only a point to secure his first crown since 2008, Steve slipped to a 1-0 defeat while Taff’s 2-0 victory was just shy of overhauling the six-goal swing required to clinch what would have been an incredible comeback having been bottom of the table for the first 11 weeks of the season.
It was the second year in succession that the title has been decided on goal difference, with Cobman edging Ewen last year by +5. This year, the two battled it out for the wooden spoon, with the Cobs once again getting the better of E-Chief, getting the point needed on the final day.
Back at the top, Paul finished just three points off the lead, with Matt a further point behind in fourth. Dave and Stu, for many weeks also in the title hunt, both claimed points in the final weekend.
All in all, it’s been another great Kestrel with six teams still in with a chance up until the final few weeks, but it was Steve – predicted to come last according Honest Hallos’ pre-season odds – who came out on top.
